As the rain fell and the wind blew on Sunday morning we thought maybe Rum Fest might be a damp squib!
We persevered setting up the outside Rum Bar, barbecue, and gazebo for our Reggae band the MadHatters and by our 2pm start time the wind was dropping, the rain was stopping and the reggae and rum fest kicked off.
We couldn’t have expected such a brilliant turnout. Making Rum Fest one of the biggest Sunday’s in Red Lion history!
It was of course the Red Lions 165th birthday too so a great reason for a celebration..
Sarah our Red Lion Deputy did a wonderful job setting up the Rum Fest bar and with Steve on the BBQ and the MadHatters on song it turned out to be a great day!
We look forward to seeing you all again next August Bank Holiday Sunday and Monday 2017.
Music, sun and rum and food to match was the order of the weekend as the first Red Lion Rum Fest hit Hope Square! The team had their T-Shirts on and the reggae played and it all proved a great success as Rum was sipped from our outside Rum Bar as well as inside where a further 80 rums waited to be enjoyed.
In 2016 the Rum Fest and the Red Lion’s 165th Birthday party will move to the Sunday and Monday of the August Bank Holiday weekend the 28th and 29th August 2016. So get ready for the Rum and Ting!
We have been working very hard at the Red Lion to update our rum bible and introduce our Rum ‘quarterly’ which as the name suggests comes out quarterly and highlights our favourite rums and how we believe they should be served. We feature our ‘Top Ten’ rums from our selection that is now over 80 different types!!
New glassware for rums is being introduced and other interesting activities for our loyal rum loving public to enjoy. We are keeping things under wraps
for a week or so while we finish everything.
New food menu, new wine list, new cider list, new rum bible (with extra history notes) and of course our Rum quarterly as well as some rather nice
‘Liquid Puddings’ involving rums…roll on the summer!!!
